Treatment for sleep apnea varies from very simple lifestyle changes to surgery. An oral appliance may be recommended as an effective treatment option for patients who suffer from snoring or with mild to moderate OSA. Oral appliance therapy involves the selection, fitting and use of a specially designed oral appliance. This small plastic device fits in the mouth during sleep like an orthodontic retainer and helps prevent the collapse of the tongue and soft tissues in the back throat, It keeps the airway open during sleep and promoting adequate air intake. Most Oral appliances are covered by medical insurance, and we will help you contact your insurance and report you the coverage. A Dentist, with advanced training in prosthodontists and/or in oral appliance therapy must provide a diagnosis and recommend the most-effective treatment approach. Misdiagnosis can lead patients with moderate to severe sleep apnea to be fitted with a dental device that will not adequately improve breathing in sleep.

In-Home Sleep Apnea Study
In most cases to diagnose OSA a patient can opt for an insurance-paid in-home sleep apnea study. At Weston Dental Care we partnered with MySleepTest.com network to provide the best treatment options as part of a specialized network of sleep doctors. After an initial evaluation if it is considered necessary we will refer you to MySleepTest.com for an in-home sleep study covered by most insurance plans which is simple, reliable and allows the patient to sleep in their own bed.

Oral Appliance Coverage by Medical Insurance
Most oral appliances for OSA are covered by your MEDICAL insurance. Since insurance plans vary widely we work with all our patients to help them obtain reimbursement from their insurance carrier to the maximum allowed by their plan.

In our practice we will always make treatment recommendations based on what we believe is in your best interest to improve your sleep and your health. We will help you understand the cost of your treatment so you can make an informed decision about oral appliance therapy. We will also explain how your insurance benefits can help you with the cost of treatment. To that end, we can send a pre-treatment determination of benefits to your insurance company prior to your pursuing treatment.

We hope you will see us as a resource in helping you make healthy choices. We intend to be in a relationship with you for a long time so your long-term health is important to us.
